Writers Club

Beginning January 20th, select 3rd, 4th, & 5th grade students will be launching a writers club with students from Harrison Avenue School in South Glens Falls. Over the next several months they will be creating collaborative and individual stories together. In May, students from both schools will be coming to together at Northshire Bookstore to share their stories at a public event.

Fall Library Happenings

Library Programs Schedule

We are excited to offer each grade level an after-school and during school library program this Fall. The document below lists each of the programs. These dates are subject to change, but are meant to keep parents, teachers and students informed about the many fun literacy based opportunities available for students. Permission slips for each event will be added to the website as they are made available. These permission slips can be downloaded and printed.

The LGES Library is Here for You!

While our entire website is designed to help support our learners, teachers and families, our homepage has been specifically tailored to be a quick and easy place to access critical resources to support all of our patrons. Please be sure to reach out if we can help provide additional support.

Family After-School Library Hours

Picture
Families can feel free to browse the shelves, read a good book together, work on homework, or enjoy a quiet activity during after-school hours (M-Th, 2:15-3:10). We ask that all children in grades K-4 who are staying to come with a family member who will supervise them. We encourage parents of students in grades 5-6 to come and enjoy the library with their families as well, but they are more than welcome to stay in the library without their families, as long as they have their parents permission, have signed up prior to 1:00 on the sign-up sheet posted on the bulletin, and have work (homework, reading, projects, etc.) to complete during their time. Students are not allowed to use their phones during this time.

The library will be open Monday -Thursday from 2:20-3:10. With the exception of the first Tuesday of each month while the staff attends our monthly faculty meeting.

Please reach to Mrs. Crossman or Mrs. Chance for further information!

Preschool "Storytime Suitcase" Program

Storytime Suitcases:
At the Lake George Elementary School Library we work hard to support our readers and their families in fun and engaging ways. That includes supporting our youngest readers- OUR PRESCHOOLERS.  We are very excited to announce a brand new preschool program called, "Storytime Suitcases." These loanable “suitcases” allow for learning "on the go." Each suitcase is stocked with a book and a related interactive activity for families to borrow from the library and take home. The activities in the suitcases were created by our elementary school librarian and reading specialists in order to help develop basic foundational reading skills, while instilling a love of reading.

Enrollment:
All students who will be attending Lake George Elementary School are welcome to enroll in this program. This program is designed with books and activities for children ages 3-5, but can be enjoyed by younger children if desired.  Families can stop into the elementary school during open school hours and visit the library to enroll. Families can then borrow bags and keep the suitcases for up to 2 weeks before exchanging them for a new bag. If students attend our Pre-K program they are also able to checkout the suitcases during school hours.
